WELCOME, CANINE GOOD NEIGHBOUR CANDIDATES!
Thanks for choosing Hunter's Heart to asses your Canine Good Neighbour (CGN) Candidate. Since 1999, Hunter's Heart has trained thousands of teams worldwide, including many teams that passed the CGN test and some that became certified service dogs, therapy dogs, and sniffer dogs. We want you to succeed and we're looking forward to meeting you and your dog!
WHAT'S THE CGN TEST?
To pass the CGN test, you must pass all of these 12 components:
- Accepting A Friendly Stranger
- Politely Accepts Petting
- Appearance and Grooming
- Out For A Walk
- Walking Through A Crowd
- Sit/Down and Stay In Place
- Come When Called
- Praise/Interaction
- Reaction To A Passing Dog
- Reaction To Distractions
- Supervised Isolation
- Walking Through A Door/Gate
During CGN tests, you are not allowed to use food rewards, and only specified gear is allowed (e.g. buckle and martingale collars are allowed but not head halters, hands free leashes, or pinch collars).
Don't forget your brush, proof of rabies vaccination and dog license (where applicable).
If you need some help training or polishing your skills around other dogs and distractions, or help fading the food, check out our CGN prep classes.

The official CGN Test is a 12-step test administered by the Canadian Kennel Club. All participants are responsible for knowing the rules. Read all about it on the CKC website.
Passing requires teamwork. You and your dog need to demonstrate good manners in public places and around other dogs.
The official CGN test is non-competitive. It's not a race and there's no first place. It assesses the handler and dog's manners in everyday situations, including distractions like greeting a stranger, or walking past a friendly dog.
Don't forget your brush, proof of vaccination and dog license (where applicable).
All participants must also sign our waiver, or they will not be allowed to participate. This includes all family members, guests and spectators.

Hunter's Heart offers CGN Preparatory classes at 2 locations: TheBeastBoutique and Barrett Dog Sports. Please check your correspondence to confirm the location of your class.
